Concept

Arogyanikethanam is a riverside wellness centre offering a unique one of a kind experience while educating the importance of altering the prevailing lifestyle responsible for a long list of non-communicable diseases which has been eating into the resources of the individual, government and the nation at large. Around one fourth of the adult population in Kerala are diabetic and many more are on the path towards it!

Arogyanikethanam is the brain child of Dr G. Vijayakumar, who believes that with advances in modern medicine, it is high time we incorporate disease prevention strategies as part of our day to day routine by adopting a healthier lifestyle. With bakeries and fast food outlets popping in every nook and cranny, food transporting agencies or services just a phone call away encouraging energy dense diets, loaded with sodium and unhealthy fats, it is time to circle the wagons and see what they are doing to our health and where we will be in a couple of years’ time.

It is long overdue that Kerala state well known for its high literacy rate and good health care system, shift focus to helping our masses adopt healthy lifestyle by providing them leisure centers in each and every panchayat thereby promoting this highly needed shift from being couch potatoes to being responsible individuals who are in control of their health.

Historical walk

One of the key features of the centre is a historical walk that traces the evolution of Kerala society over the last 77 years. It offers a unique experience that takes you on a walk through the different phases of Kerala's post-independence era, showcasing how the state has evolved from an agrarian to an urban society.

In the early years, the people had lean muscles due to hard work, different food habits, and a difficult life. However, as the years went by, Gulf money flooded into the state, leading to added comforts and a sedentary lifestyle that has led to numerous lifestyle diseases like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, stress, and cardiovascular diseases. By understanding how our society has evolved and how our lifestyle has changed over the years, we can make informed decisions and take necessary actions to prevent chronic illnesses.

Lifestyle museum

The lifestyle museum takes you on a journey through time, showcasing how our way of living has changed drastically over the years. From joint families to nuclear families, and from physically active lifestyles to sedentary ones, the exhibits and artefacts give us an honest portrayal of the evolution of our lifestyles. You can witness the revolution in the kitchen, office and living room that has led to chronic illnesses becoming more prevalent in our society.

Children’s play area

Arogyanikethanam has a designated area for children to play, explore and have fun in a safe environment. It is equipped with a wide range of play equipment and facilities suitable for children of different ages, such as swings, merry-go-round, slides, seesaw, basketball and trampoline.

Children's parks play an important role in promoting physical activity and socialization among children, and they provide a space for children to engage in imaginative play and creative activities.

We have taken into consideration the safety and security of children. Children Play area is being regularly maintained to ensure that they remain safe and attractive for children to play in.

Mini theatre

An added facility is a mini theatre, where movies are played, collection of more than 100 documentaries and drama in connection with health and wellness. Airing will be customised depending on the visitors. Our educational and awareness videos are a great way to learn about diabetes and its complications, nutrition, exercise, disease prevention and management.

Miyawaki forest

A great venture from our part for ensuring a balance in nature at Arogyanikethanam. The Miyawaki forest is a type of afforestation technique that was pioneered by Japanese botanist Dr. Akira Miyawaki. Behind Miyawaki forest our goal was to recreate a natural forest ecosystem in a relatively short period of time. The Miyawaki forest technique differs from traditional afforestation methods, which typically involve planting a single species of tree in rows. By planting a variety of trees in close proximity, the Miyawaki forest can mimic the structure and diversity of a natural forest. This can lead to faster growth, increased biodiversity, and improved soil quality. Diet Corner has interactive touch screen kiosks – to know your body mass index and weight status, to know how much calories you are consuming on a daily basis, etc. it also analysis whether you are having a balance in nutrition. Displays include food groups, a day’s menu, sugar content in various foods, millets, signal system, foods with 100 calories etc. For those interested, there is opportunity for education programs on nutrition, workshop on healthy eating, cooking etc. Our nutricon would be a fascinating and informative destination for anyone interested in food, science and health.

Water screen

Water screen is a vertical surface of water that can be used to display images or videos using projection technology. In Arogyanikethanam, water screen is used as a unique and engaging way to promote health and wellness messaging.
